It also has a quick settings menu while connected, and you can switch down to grayscale and black and white, which work with OS X (Remoter might have these modes too, but the interface is clunky to get there iirc). I like it's fast enough to watch a small video stream window but will turn into a slide show fullscreen.

For small sections it's the fastest, but for full screen it seems about as slow as most others. Control wise it doesn't have the nice gestures of Screens, but it does have a trackpad mode which works generally well along with touch and some others, along with small options for each. Jump Desktop is my main one right now, I guess it's sort of the best all around. Like there was no way to even hover until the 3.0 release, and even that is a bit awkward (also tried hovering and clicking now and ran into issues there). It works ok for tapping as long as the target isn't too small but there's other stuff. The app is designed around direct touch input, which can be annoying when controlling a desktop OS designed around a mouse. Screens has the best full screen performance, at least on the LAN, and nice Mac specific integration (like mapping 3 finger gestures to OS X's 4 finger ones).but has one major issue for me. Screen performance is the slowest.but it can vary cause there's a bunch of settings to mess with. There's also one for sound (through an app on the Mac), the only one that supports that out of those three. And while it's cheap there's IAP for stuff, like $3 or something for SSH support, which includes tunneling and a regular SSH client. Remoter gets kudos for being the cheapest and having a bunch of features and configurability, but the amount of the latter feels like overkill, and general UI wise feels the clunkiest. I've used Remoter, Screens, and now Jump Desktop.

Moreover, LogMeIn showed the mouse pointer but you could tap anywhere on screen to re-position the pointer there and then there was a mouse icon that let you tap left or right buttons. Lot of them have good reviews but hard to tell what's the most reliable and easiest to set up.
There are a bunch of VNC and SSH apps which range from $5 to $30, sometimes more. Now I see there is a Splashtop2 and it seems to require accounts which it did not previously. Moreover, it seemed to require port forwarding, unlike LogMeIn or TeamViewer. I purchased Splashtop awhile back but I noticed it reset the resolution of the display on the Mac being shared. I also use TeamViewer but it's not so good for multitouch as LogMeIn.

Been using LogMeIn free version for a couple of year but got a notice that they are going to end it and require people to upgrade to Pro, which apparently requires a subscription, not just a one-time purchase.
